Destruction of Marijuana (cannabis) Plant

23rd August, 2010: Awareness Program on NDPS (drugs) for students, teachers and parents at Wangdue Lower Secondary School on 21st August, 2010.

Total no. of participants: 430

23 July 2010:
29th May 2010, 31 scouts led by Scout Master. School Health Coordinator and the Teachers counselor of Tangmachu Middle Secondary School, Lhuntse uproted about 10 acres of marijuana (cannabis) plants at Sumpa along Lhuntse-Mongar highway. 26 June, 2010 BNCA in collaboration with Wangdue Dzongkhag Administration observed International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking on 26th June 2010 by organizing a marijuana destruction program at Bae-Langdra, Wangdue.There were around 100 village volunteers from Kashi Gewog who participated in the uprooting program. BNCA distributed public awareness materials like T-Shirts & posters to Wangdue Dzongkhag officials and the participants. Total area for destruction of marijuana plants is 6 Acres approximately.

Celebration of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Bumthang and Bae-lang Dra, Wangdue Phodrang. Health is the theme of this year's world drug campaign, to be launched on International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking(26th June). The UNODC global campaign "Think health - not drugs" aims to inform the public, particularly young people, about the harmful effects that drugs under international control can have on their health.
